LUCANIA. Thurium. Distater 400/350. Obv. Helmeted head of Athena to r., Scylla hurling rock, adorning helmet. Rev. ΘΥΡΙΩΝ Bull charging to r., cornucopiae in exergue. 15.80 g. Noe N14. Rare. Fine patina, well centered with traces of original mint lustre. Extremely fine.

Purchased from Spink (no. 6286) sometime in the 1960's.
At the time it was apparently the second known specimen. Coin tag and old description enclosed,

LUCANIA. Thurium. Stater 370. Signed oeuvre of the medallist Molossos. Obv. Head of Athena in Attic helmet to r. The helmet is decorated with Scylla scanning the horizon to r. Rev. ΘOYPI(?)N Bull butting to r. on exergual line signature MOΛOΣΣOΣ, Fish in exergue. 7.76 g. SNG 1024. HN Italy 1784. Very attractive cabinet patina. Traces of original lustre. Tight flan. Small punch on rev. Graffito on cheek and reverse. Extremely fine.

Slow quadriga to r., the driver, wearing long chiton, holding the reins with his r. hand, the kentron with his l. hand; above, Nike flying r. to crown the horses; in exergue ketos to r. Rev. KATANA(I O N) Laureate head of Apollo r., the hair bound up in back of head. 17.69 g. SNG ANS 1249. Gulbenkian 182. Rare. Slight flattening and small die crack. Excellent style. About extremely fine.

SICILY. Leontinoi. Tetradrachm shortly after 480. Dies by the Demareteion Master. Obv. Slow quadriga to r. Nike crowning the standing driver who holds branch in r. hand. In exergue a lion running to r. Rev. ΛEO - NTIN - O - N Head of Apollo to r. wearing laurel wreath. His hair is combed over the forehead and tied in back of head. Below the head, a lion running to r. Nike flying to r. to right above, crowning horses, ketos in exergue to r. Rev. Broad flan. Very minor planchet faults. A spectacular specimen. Uncirculated.

ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΛΧΟΥ Athena Nikephoros enthroned to l., holding Nike in her extended right hand, resting left elbow on shield; monogram on left. 8.51 g. Apparently unpublished. See Auction Goldberg, May 24, 2009, lot 1644. Extremely rare. Of the finest style by a master die cutter. Petite cabinet piece. Brilliant uncirculated.
