This medal was struck at Dresden to commemorate the installation of John George II, Elector of Saxony, as a Knight of the Garter, at Windsor on 29 May 1671. John George II (31 May 1613 - 22 August 1680) was the Elector of Saxony from 1656 to 1680. He belonged to the Albertine branch of the House of Wettin.
