Produced by a very primitive die cutter. The faces are practically all of linear strokes. The indiction year is not clear. It reads II, but is probably a corrupted IB. Perhaps this coin is the product of a ´´barbarian´´ mint.

Ex Auction NAC D. Zurich 1994. Lot 2243.
In the Leu/NAC Auction in Zurich 1993, a solidus? of 3.4 g. and identical dies was sold under lot 126. Apparently an irregular mint produced solidi and fractions in varying weights. The workmanship is quite good and perhaps a mint in Italy can be considered.

4.36 g. Rare. Pierced and repaired. Almost extremely fine-very fine.
Ex Auction Karl Kress 7. Munich 1971. Lot 855.
This last solidus emission of the long reign of Constans II is remarkable in a number of ways. The usual reverse legend is now on the obverse and replaced the imperial names and titles. The reverse with the three emperors is modeled after the coins of Heraclius. Unusual is that the crown prince Constantinus IV, who was always on the obverse of coins with his father since 654 is now relegated to the reverse with the other princes. At this time Constans was no longer in Constantinople but resided in Syracuse.
