Victoria, 1837-1901. Silver Medal 1885, 61.39 g. Centenary of The Times. By Strongi'th'arm. Busts, conjoined and draped, of the Walter family: John Sr., John Jr. and John III. Rv. Clockface upon an open book, inscribed THE TIMES, over a wreath. CENTENARY CELEBRATION BEARWOOD 1885. Plain edge. 44.6 mm. Eimer 1712. BHM 3202. Vorzüglich / Extremely Fine. Feine Patina / Nicely toned.

The portraits represent three generations of the Walters family, the owners of The Times, and all are named John Walters - the founder (1739-1812), his second son (1776-1847) and the latter's eldest son (1818-1894). Bearwood was the family home in Wokingham, Berkshire and now houses Reddam House School.
