The Birmingham and Midland Counties Exhibition, established in 1849, was a significant industrial and cultural event held in Birmingham. It is often regarded as a precursor to the Great Exhibition of 1851 at the Crystal Palace. The exhibition attracted over 100,000 visitors, including notable figures such as Charles Darwin, Robert Stephenson, and Prince Albert. The success of the 1849 exhibition led to the construction of Bingley Hall in 1850, the first purpose-built exhibition hall in Great Britain, which replaced the temporary structure.
