The Treaty of Amiens, signed on March 25, 1802, marked a temporary peace between France (under Napoleon Bonaparte) and Great Britain during the French Revolutionary Wars. It was a significant diplomatic agreement that brought a brief respite from the conflict that had engulfed Europe since 1792.
Tensions escalated in 1803 when Britain refused to leave Malta, citing concerns about French ambitions in the Mediterranean. Napoleon responded by threatening to invade Britain, leading to the resumption of hostilities in May 1803. This marked the beginning of the Napoleonic Wars, which would last until 1815.
