George II (30 October 1683 - 25 October 1760) was King of Great Britain and Ireland, Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg (Hanover) and a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire from 11 June 1727 until his death in 1760. He and his wife Caroline as king and queen took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on 11 October 1727. George Frederic Handel was commissioned to write four new anthems for the coronation.
