Description

2 Ducats 1714, Red Mint. 6.91 g. Diakov 445 (R4). Bitkin 17 (R3). Fr. 86. Von grösster Seltenheit / Of the highest rarity. 500 roubles according to Petrov. NGC VF30. Mit kleinem Gegenstempel "C" auf der Vorderseite / With small punch mark "C" on obverse.

From the Hutten-Czapski Collection.

This piece with the Count Emmerich Hutten-Czapski punch mark comes probably from the Grand Duke Georgi Mikhailovich collection since the Russian part of the Count was bought by the Duke. This extremely rare 1714 Double Ducat has only been offered twice at auction in the last 60 years. By contrast, more than six examples of the second type, described Novodel by Bitkin, have been auctioned.
