After the conclusion of a peace treaty between Persia and Russia in 1828, a Russian mission under M. Grebaiodov was sent to Tehran by Tsar Nicholas I. The mission was received with honor, but the envoy's claim for the surrender of two Armenian women by a high-ranking court official created a riot and a mob stormed the Russian Embassy, murdering the envoy and his staff. In dismay, the Shah dispatched his grandson, Khosrow Mirza to offer the apologies of the Persian Government, which were eventually accepted. In the following year Khosrow Mirza officially visited Russia again and this extremely rare medal commemorates his visit in 1829.
