John III, Ducas-Vatatzes, 1223-1254. Hyperpyron 1232/1254 (?), Magnesia. Obv. Christ enthroned, facing, wearing tunic and colobion, raising r. hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in l. hand. IC - XC in field. Rev. Emperor on l. wearing divitision and loros, holding akakia and labarum, crowned by the Virgin on r. 4.35 g. Sear 2073. Hendy pl. 31, 13-15. Scyphate form. Very fine.
