Description

Taler 1773. So-called Gessner-Taler. A lion to right with shouldered sword, holding shield of arms. Rev. Sword, palm and laurel branches bound by a flowers wreath on a console. On the plate of the console the letter V for the die-cutter signature of Vorster. Wavy edge in relief. 26.39 g. D.T. 425. Hürlimann 629. HMZ 2-1164ddd. Davenport 1792. Very rare. Extremely fine.

Details

Supposedly only 36 specimens were struck as a beginning die crack on the reverse (at 6 o'clock) impaired the die more and more. The die crack on this specimen is relatively advanced and one can assume it was one of the last such coins struck.
