The membership of the Society of Pacific Coast Pioneers was restricted only to those persons who had arrived in the Far West prior to the end of the California gold rush. In the big fire through Virginia City in October 1875 also their building was destroyed. With these promissory notes the members tried to raise money for the reconstruction of a new building. In the late 1870s the Society disappeared.
