William V (8 March 1748 - 9 April 1806) was Prince of Orange and the last Stadtholder of the Dutch Republic. He was the son of William IV, Prince of Orange, and Anne, Princess Royal. In 1795, he went into exile to London. He was furthermore ruler of the Principality of Orange-Nassau until his death in 1806. In that capacity, he was succeeded by his son William.
William V was elected a Knight of the Garter on 13 March 1752, and installed by proxy on the 4 June following, and not on 5 June, as stated on this medal.
