George II (30 October 1683 - 25 October 1760) was King of Great Britain and Ireland, Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg (Hanover) and a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire from 11 June 1727 until his death in 1760. He and his wife Caroline as king and queen took place at Westminster Abbey, London, on 11 October 1727. George Frederic Handel was commissioned to write four new anthems for the coronation.

This is the official medal distributed at the public expense during the ceremony. It is said that 200 were struck in gold, 800 in silver, and an even greater number in copper.
