Medal for Military Merit of the Nizam Naseri Military School. Bronze medal (Bronze) Edition 1307 AH (1889/1890 AD). Not intended to be worn. Very rare. NGC AU Details. Mount removed.
From the Kian collection, auction SINCONA 49, October 2018, lot 91.
Bought from Dr. A. Shams-Aram, Frankfurt, 1984.
This medal, which is also available in silver, was donated in 1307 AH [1889/1890 AD] during the reign of Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar (1831-1896, ruled since 1848). There are two different types of obverse, one, as offered here, with the lion and sun in a laurel wreath surrounded by military equipment, and the other showing only the larger lion and sun in a laurel and oak leaf wreath. The five words surrounding the center and indicating the name of the school have the meaning Privilege - Virtue - Zeal - Kingdom - Patriotism.
Important note:
Certain countries (among them the USA) currently impose import restrictions on coins and medals originating from what is now the present territory of Iran. To still allow collectors, dealers, museums and other interested parties who might be affected by these regulations to actively participate in the auction and acquire these magnificent pieces for their collection, SINCONA offers to store the auctioned pieces safely and covered by our insurance in our vaults until the customer specifies the shipping location or picks them up personally. This unique and exclusive service, including the specific insurance, is free of charge for our auction buyers.
