On pedestal of obelisk two children holding a shield with IB. An elephant, a stork standing on both legs and sitting woman playing with two children to the left. Moscow senate building in the background. 65.4 mm. Diakov 157.5. Extremely fine-uncirculated.

Award medal from the senate. Ivan Ivanovich Betskoi or Betskoy (born 14.2.1704, died 11.9.1795) was an educational reformer in the Russian Empire who served as Catherine II's advisor on education and President of the Imperial Academy of Arts for thirty years (1764–94). Perhaps the crowning achievement of his long career was the establishment of Russia's first unified system of public education.
