The reference book Nineteenth Century Token Coinage, by W. J. Davis, published in 1904, refers to a platinum Bank of England 3 shilling token in the Boyne Sale of 1866, lot 21. This seems to be the earliest reference to Bank of England tokens in platinum. A pattern platinum 1812 9d token is also known from the Montagu sale of 1893.
The Bank of England acquired the following platinum pieces for their own collection - an 1812 1/6d from the Lingford Sale in 1950 and an 1813 specimen from the Cokayne Sale of 1946, where the piece was described as being fine, unique.
